Mallet Madness is Coming!
Mallet Madness will be returning this year in late April and early May. Mallet Madness will last for two to three weeks. This is one of our favorite events of the year in the music room. All of our Orff instruments and drums are used each day during this time. It is an excellent way to review in application many of the musical concepts we have studied this year in class including note values, dynamics, tempo, steady beat, accompaniment of self while singing, and so much more. I am looking forward to this special time of year with your students!

RECORDER CHECK OUT
We will begin a checkout system soon which will allow your student to bring home his/ her school recorder to rehearse. Because the recorders belong to the school they will be checked out much like a library book. The students are expected to bring them back to school in good condition or they will be charged a $6.00 replacement fee for the instrument. The kids will soon be working towards earning "Recorder Karate" belts for their accomplishments in learning the notes on the recorder. Thank you in advance for assisting your student in this responsibility.

Recorders
Third graders have begun playing the recorders. We spent several weeks learning how to read the notes on the staff, and now we are putting that into practice!
The school has plenty of recorders for your students so there is no need for them to bring their own. Each student is assigned a recorder number so that they play the same one each time. We store them in their cases so they are protected when we put them away each day.
I just have to say the I am so impressed! The third graders have been phenomenal at playing the recorder! We have already learned three notes and are playing several fun songs including "BA Cowboy" and "BAG O'Tigers" which use the notes B, A, and G. We will spend quite a bit of time on these three notes before we move on.
The students are anxious to bring home the instruments and show off what they have learned. Please be willing to listen to them play at least one song for you when that happens, it means so much to them to be able to share with you what they are learning.
